School boards get infusion of cash

The Rainbow District School Board will receive $145,726,501, an increase of $4,892,134, and the Sudbury Catholic District School Board will receive  $62,436,880, an increase of $1,975,246.

The Conseil Scolaire Public de Grand Nord de l'Ontario will receive $40,470,725, an increase of $665,958, and the Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario will receive $87,979,701, an increase of $552,791.   

This is the third year in the row the province has boosted funding for Ontario schools, said Bartolucci, adding that his government has increased per student funding by 21 percent since coming into office in 2003.

Putting more money into education allows school boards to provide the quality programs that students deserve, he said.

Rainbow District School Board director of education Jean Hanson said the extra money will fund school building repairs, more music and literacy teachers, and enhanced literacy, numeracy and French as a second language programs.
