School boards in the Sudbury, Espanola, Massey and Manitoulin districts have cancelled school buses today (Jan. 23) due to road and weather conditions.

All schools will remain open; however, no transportation will be provided. Parents who transport their children to school are reminded that they must pick up their children at the end of the school day.

Furthermore, Grade 9 math EQAO assessments scheduled to take place today and tomorrow at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and Sudbury Secondary School have been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 24 and Wednesday, Jan. 25.

All staff at all school boards is expected to report to work.

With warmer temperatures and mixed precipitation expected today, police are asking all drivers to be cautious and drive according to the conditions of the road.

Drivers should decrease speed and increase following distance.

The weather has also contributed to a power outage for both Lively and Chelmsford residents.

Hydro crews are currently out working on restoration; however, power is not expected to be back until the noon hour.

During this time, residents in these areas are reminded to use cellular phone service when 911 service is needed.

Fire captains have been dispatched to the Lively, Waters (Black Lake Road) and Chelmsford Stations as a precaution.

A freezing rain warning is in effect for Greater Sudbury, according to Environment Canada.

The forecast calls for periods of freezing rain changing to rain this morning, with winds gusting to about 50 km/h. The high for today is six degrees C.

The rain will change to snow after midnight tonight, with a total snowfall amount expected to be between two and four cm.
