Science North lets its inner Steampunk out

Annual fundraiser helps science centre expand programs

Science North lets its inner Steampunk shine Saturday night for its annual fundraising gala.

According to the Wikipedia page on the topic, Steampunk fashion, which is popular with cosplayers, has no set guidelines, but tends to synthesize modern styles with influences from the Victorian era.

Science North CEO Guy Labine dressed the part, as did dozens of others attending the evening gala. He said the gala allows people to experience the science centre in a different way, and the funds raised allows help expand the programs offered.

Since its inception, the gala has raised more than $250,000.

The theme for this year's fundraising gala was chosen to complement Science North's new exhibit, 101 Inventions That Changed the World, which opened at the science centre last month.

Guests were treated to a Victorian feast, open bar, late night fare, live music and entertainment, “steamy” science experiments and live and silent auctions.
