Science North science director Julie Moskalyk is among three Canadians selected for the fifth Homeward Bound cohort (HB5).

Homeward Bound is a 10-year global initiative to equip 1,000 women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) fields with the skills to lead and to influence policy and decision-making in ways that will help to create a sustainable future for the planet.

Moskalyk joins 75 female scientists representing 25 countries to complete a 12-month program featuring learning to increase leadership capacity, strategic capability, visibility and collaboration.

Women selected for the fifth Homeward Bound Program have backgrounds in STEMM, cover a broad range of professions, occupations and career levels, and were selected based on their potential to demonstrate a new model of leadership, creating better outcomes for the planet.

Tammy Eger, research chair with the School of Human Kinetics at Laurentian University, was part of the fourth Homeward Bound cohort.

“Science North implements innovative ways to inspire people of all ages to become passionate about STEMM fields,” said Moskalyk, in a press release.

“As a science centre leader, I am committed to developing impactful visitor experiences that build engaged audiences - people who are prepared to make informed decisions about local and global issues.

“Initiatives such as Homeward Bound provide valuable leadership training for women in STEMM and I am excited to bring my new skills to Science North, Sudbury and beyond."

“I am so honoured to have been selected for this incredible opportunity. I look forward to meeting the other amazing women on #TeamHB5, sharing our experiences and collectively working with the other 4 cohorts to activate our learnings and visions globally.”

“The aim of Homeward Bound has always been to identify and foster outstanding leadership potential in STEMM and Julie is exactly the kind of person I had in mind when I dreamt of this program,” said the program's founder, Fabian Dattner.

“Science North is proud to have Julie Moskalyk selected for this program,” said Science North CEO Guy Labine.

“It’s a great learning and development opportunity for Julie and an exciting program that will connect Science North with a global network of leaders.”
