Scrap Cancer fundraiser returns for 11th year

Sudbury and North Bay residents encouraged to take part and support the work of the Northern Cancer Foundation

The Northern Cancer Foundation and Triple M Metal announced the kickoff to the 11th annual Scrap Cancer challenge.

Running until Oct. 7, the event encourages the public to donate scrap metal and electronic waste, which is converted to cash to support the work of the Northern Cancer Foundation. The foundation raises funds and purchases equipment that supports the work of th Northeast Cancer Centre.

“Last year, Scrap Cancer raised over $46,000, and this year we are trying to double that amount!” the foundation said in a news release. “Every dollar raised during this drive will directly support priority equipment, research, and patient care at the Northeast Cancer Centre.”

So how can you participate? There are a couple of ways.

As an organization, you and your coworkers can collect scrap metal and electronic waste at your organization that can be scrapped. Triple M Metal will even provide a collection service.

You can also drop off scrap metal and electronic waste at one of several public collection bins The bins can be found at the following locations:

  • First Round Sports Bar (Val Caron), 1642 Main St.
  • First Round Sports Bar (Copper Cliff), 39 Balsam St.
  • Rammako’s Source for Adventure, 2345 Regent Street
  • Bianco’s Superstore, 1224 The Kingsway
  • Rifles and Reels Game and Fish Club, 782 Goodwill Dr., Garson
