Another COVID-19 outbreak has occurred at Health Sciences North. This time it has occurred on the Fourth Floor - South Tower said a news release from HSN.

On Friday it was revealed there was an outbreak on the Sixth Floor - South Tower, involving at least two individuals.

"This outbreak is separate and distinct from the one declared on 6-South on Friday March 12," said the statement from HSN, release just before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

HSN said the outbreak was declared by Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) which is investigating the situation along with hospital staff. Both  outbreaks are "contained" said PHSD.

"Public Health is actively working with the hospital to investigate the outbreak and ensure patients and staff are protected. Currently, both outbreaks are contained and there is no evidence of ongoing transmission. Public Health or Health Sciences North will directly contact anyone identified as a close contact and provide further direction," said the statement from PHSD.

“The need for everyone to monitor and screen for COVID-19 symptoms daily and to stay home when ill is critical in limiting the spread of the virus. If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, please take it seriously, and get tested,” said Stacey Laforest, Director, Health Protection Division at PHSD.

The protection of our most vulnerable populations and health care system is of the utmost importance. Everyone is urged to continue following public health measures to protect others and stop the spread of COVID-19, said PHSD.

A statement from the hospital said some areas will be restricted for visitors and new patients.

"Admissions and designated care partners to the affected unit are restricted. Some patients are in isolation, being monitored for symptoms and have been tested. Follow up contact tracing has occurred and testing is in progress," said the hospital statement.

"Additional infection, prevention and control measures are in place such as strict hand hygiene, heightened infection surveillance, additional use of personal protective equipment, laboratory testing and enhanced cleaning and disinfection.

The hospital also said it remains open with clinics and procedures continuing as normal. HSN continues to be a safe place for patients, designated care partners, staff, learners and volunteers.
