The Women's Legal Education and Action Fund held its Persons Day breakfast Oct. 23.

The annual breakfast began at 7 a.m. in the Great Hall of Laurentian University. The breakfast celebrated the advancement of women's rights in Canada, as well as detailing some of the ongoing work being done to ensure equal rights.

The keynote speaker was Nancy Ruth, a member of the Canadian Senate. The senator is a social activist and philanthropist, and founded the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF).

Ruth spoke about many of the current trials facing women's equality and the fight that women faced to become "persons" under Canadian law.

LEAF undertakes court cases that deal with the equality in the lives of Canadian women and girls. For more information, visit www.leaf.sudbury.com.
