Seniors protest transfers to Parry Sound

A coalition of Sudbury seniors is holding a press conference Tuesday to protest the provincial government's decision to send area long-term care patients to Parry Sound.

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced recently that they were revising Sudbury's Crisis 1A designation to include the Georgian Bay town.

Under the designation, which has been in place for over a year, the Manitoulin-Sudbury Community Care Access Centre is also authorized to send people to nursing homes in Espanola and Manitoulin Island.

The government made the change because of the ongoing bed shortage in Sudbury.

Gordon White from the Canadian Association for the 50 Plus (CARP), Tom Rannelli from the Mine Mill Seniors, J. Dionne from the Steelworkers of America Retirees (SOAR) and Edith Boudreau from the Royal Canadian Legion will speak at the event.
