Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré was in Calgary recently, engaging with his American counterparts on a wide range of topics at the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Annual Summit from July 18 - 21.

“It has been a pleasure to welcome our American colleagues to beautiful Calgary this week, and to continue the productive policy discussions that we began together last month in Washington,” said Serré.

The PNWER Annual Summit featured keynote speakers and workshops on policy subjects such as agriculture, order issues, disaster resilience & cybersecurity, energy & the environment, invasive species, natural gas & mining, tourism, municipal economic development, and more.

The 26th edition of the Annual Summit featured 535 total delegates, including 61 state/provincial/territorial legislators, 11 MPs and Senators, eight Ministers, 46 corporate CEOs or VPs, 57 NGO Executive Directors, 14 University Presidents or VPs, and 87 other governmental officials.

“The PNWER Annual Summit was also a great opportunity to be able to highlight Greater Sudbury’s world-class mining industry with my American counterparts and industry experts,” Serré said.

“Greater Sudbury is the ‘Silicon Valley’ of underground mining research in Canada, and, as a Member of Parliament, I believe it is important for me to find ways to share the great work that Greater Sudbury’s mining industry is doing with the rest of the world. I am very pleased to be able to do this with representatives of our largest trading partner this week.”

In addition to policy discussions,  Serré toured the Calfrac Well Services laboratory to learn more about the hydraulic fracturing business and how it relates to innovation in the energy sector, as well as a tour of some of Northern Alberta’s most innovative ongoing oilsands projects.
