Lefebvre to make announcement today about Indigenous Peoples' health:

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health, will make an important announcement in support of Indigenous Peoples' health on Monday morning. The announcement will be made at the Health Sciences North Research Institute at 9:30 a.m.The announcement will be followed by a tour that will show how researchers at Health Sciences North Research Institute are using their expertise to assist aging people in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. Cutting their hair for hospice care:

Mother and daughter Diane Davis and Chloe Davis, along with Josée Rochette, sat down in the chairs at the Mirage Hair & Esthetics Studio in Val Caron on Feb. 25 to have a total of 71 inches of hair cut off between themselves and one other family member, in honour of their late relative, Diane Giroux. The group has raised more than $500 which will be donated to Maison McCulloch Hospice. The hair will be donated to 360 Hair in British Columbia. Read the full story here.

Canada Summer Games meeting this afternoon:

The Canada Games Council will be hosting a final evaluation for the Summer Games 2021 bid, this afternoon at 1:15 p.m. at the Ben Avery building at Laurentian University. Canada Games Council Bid Evaluation Committee Chair, Wayne Carew will be taking questions at the meeting. The Canada Summer Games is slated for summer 2021 and hosting rights will be awarded to Ottawa, Greater Sudbury, Niagara Falls or Kitchener/Waterloo.  A final announcement is expected on March 30 from the Games Council as to the successful host community.

Sacré-Coeur third fastest improving secondary school in Ontario:

École Secondaire du Sacré-Coeur in Sudbury has been ranked the third fastest improving secondary school in the province, according to the Fraser Institute's study in education policy. Sacré-Coeur improved their rating from 3.4 over the past five years to 5.2 in 2015-16. Of the 10 fastest improving secondary schools in Ontario, none are in Toronto or even the Greater Toronto Area. The two fastest improving schools in Ontario are École Secondaire Marie-Rivier in Kingston and West Ferris Secondary School in North Bay. Full story can be found here.

New Sudbury Centre to unveil new food court:

The New Sudbury Centre will be holding the grand opening of The Canteen on Feb. 28 at 10:30 a.m. The community is invited to check out the $1.8 million renovation that is the first of its kind since 1984.  The new food court boasts 88 additional seats and two new kiosks (Booster Juice & Kernels Popcorn). According to mall manager Genny Beckerton, the Canteen feels less like a cafeteria and more like a courtyard. In 2013, HOOPP Realty Inc. purchased the New Sudbury Centre and has been working to improve the shopping experience.

Northern Ontario finishes fourth at Scotties:

For the second year in a row, Krista McCarville's Northern Ontario rink was defeated by Chelsea Carey's Alberta rink with a medal at stake. The McCarville rink seemed to have Carey's number at this year's Scotties, beating them in the round robin (8-4) and in the 3 vs 4 page playoff (8-1), but it was Carey and her Glencoe Club rink out of Calgary who got the job done when the medals were on the line. The reigning Scotties champions claimed bronze in a 7-4 victory, while the Northern Ontario ladies will have to settle for fourth.
