Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your weekend.

Severe thunderstorm batters Sudbury:

Cleanup has begun after a violent thunderstorm rolled through Greater Sudbury and surrounding area on April 27. High winds ripped shingles off rooftops, sent lawn fixtures flying, uprooted trees and left more than 48,000 hyrdo costumers in the dark. Garson Bowl was struck by lightning just before the storm tore part of the roof off, flooding the bowling lanes below. Watch as Sudbury.com brings you footage inside the bowling alley and hear from a homeowner whose home was hit by an uprooted tree and crushed her neighbours pickup truck in Garson. Check out the video here.

Names of 48 workers killed on the job read at Day of Mourning:

Friday, April 28 marked the 33rd annual Day of Mourning for workers who were killed, injured or suffered illness due to workplace conditions. Following a Day of Mourning ceremony at Fraser Auditorium Friday morning, hosted by the Sudbury and District Labour Council, the United Steelworkers Local 6500 hosted a second ceremony in the afternoon at their hall on Brady Street. Bereaved families were presented with white roses as they read the names of the 48 workers that died or were injured on Inco/Vale property since 1985.

Thibeault: budget contains good news for NEO Kids, hospice:

Thursday's provincial budget contained some good news for some local health-care initiatives, says Energy Minister and Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault. The province has set aside $20 billion for capital programs in health, including $9 billion for ongoing projects. That could be good news for NEO Kids, the local hub for specialized children's care at Health Sciences North. The centre is looking to expand, with 35,000 patient visits last year expected to grow by 40 per cent in the next decade. NEO Kids will be eligible for funding, and Thibeault said he'll be fighting for it at the cabinet table. Find more on this story here.

Sudburians take to the streets for climate march:

On Saturday, April 29, Sudburians will gather to create political will for real climate action, creation of clean tech jobs, and climate justice. The march in Sudbury is one of more than 300 events happening internationally and is inspired by the historic People’s Climate Mobilization in Washington, D.C on that same day where over 100,000 people are expected to march. The march will start at the CN Railyard in Sudbury on Elgin Street across from the Samaritan Centre at 12:30 p.m.

Love coffee and home décor? This downtown cafe is for you:

If you love coffee and home décor, there's a new cafe in downtown Sudbury you'll probably want to visit. The Cedar Nest Decor Cafe opened at 11 Cedar St. on April 8. It offers everything a typical cafe would, including hot drinks, baked goods, sandwiches and salads, but also sells home décor items such as wreaths and planters. Owner Suzette Peters describes her home décor style as “shabby chic” or “upscale country.” In keeping with the cafe's name, many of the items are bird-related. Find out more about the cafe here.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: The Final Episode (it's a blooper reel):

After 14 episodes of Throwback Thursday, the well is running a bit dry so, for now, we're going to put our weekly historical video series up on the shelf.  Who knows? We may decide to dust it off in the future. But, for now, we've gone back through the raw footage of all 14 episodes and pulled out the best, most memorable, most professional moments we could find. Just kidding. It's a blooper reel. Check out some of our favourite bloopers here.
