Seventeen fires found in Sudbury since Friday, thirteen remain active

Fire hazard remains high to extreme in the central portion of the Northeast region

Six new forest fires were found in the Sudbury region since the last fire situation update by Sudbury.com, one of which has already been extinguished.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry also found three more fires in the surrounding area during that time, in North Bay and Chapleau. 

There are now thirteen active fires in the Sudbury region, including seven reported Saturday, and one reported earlier in the week. Two of the nine fires reported Saturday have since been extinguished, as well as two fires found July 3, that had been extinguished prior to yesterday’s update.

The fire hazard for the central and southern portion of the Northeast region where Sudbury rests remains high to extreme, and the hazard farther north ranges between low to moderate. 

New fires as of July 5 at 3:37 p.m.:

  • Sudbury No. 45: Found on July 5 at 2:53 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 44: Found on July 5 at 2:16 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.3 of a hectare.
  • Sudbury No. 43: Found on July 5 at 10:35 a.m. and is considered not under control at three hectares. 
  • Sudbury No. 42: Found on July 4 at 8:13 p.m. and is considered extinguished. 
  • Sudbury No. 41: Found on July 4 at 7:47 p.m. and is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 40: Found on July 4 at 7:38 p.m. and is being held at 0.3 of a hectare. 
  • North Bay No 18: Found on July 5 at 3:07 p.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • North Bay No. 17: Found on July 5 at 9:49 a.m. and is considered not under control at 0.1 of a hectare. 
  • Chapleau No. 4: Found on July 4 at 5:03 p.m. and is being held at 0.2 of a hectare. 

Active fires in the Sudbury region previously reported:

  • Sudbury No. 28: Found on July 2 at 3:38 p.m. and is considered under control at 1.2 hectares.
  • Sudbury No. 30: Found on July 3 at 5:03 p.m. and is considered under control at 0.7 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 31: Found on July 3 at 6 p.m. and is considered under control at 0.6 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 32: Found on July 3 at 6:36 p.m. west of Rushbrook Provincial Park, and is considered under control at 1.1 hectares. 
  • Sudbury No. 35: Found on July 4 at 2:10 p.m. west of Halfway Lake Provincial Park, and is under control at 0.3 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 36: Found on July 4 at 3:11 p.m. near Hinde Lake, and is being held at 0.3 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 37: Found on July 4 at 3:18 p.m. on an island in O.S.A. Lake, and is considered under control at 0.2 of a hectare. 
  • Sudbury No. 38: Found on July 4 west of River aux Sables Provincial Park, and is being held at one hectare. 

Active fires in the surrounding area previously reported:

  • Kirkland Lake No. 1: Found on May 21 at 4:52 p.m. and is being observed at 15.8 hectares. 
  • North Bay No. 16: Found on July 2 at 5 p.m. and is considered under control at one hectare. 
  • Parry Sound No. 12: Found on July 3 at 5:47 p.m. and is considered under control at one hectare. 
  • Parry Sound No. 13: Found on July 3 at 7:18 p.m. and is considered under control at 0.3 of a hectare. 
  • Chapleau No. 3: Found on July 3 at 4:48 p.m. east of Upper Green Lake, and is considered not under control at 40 hectares. 

Previously reported fires extinguished since the last fire situation update:

  • Sudbury No. 29: Found on July 3 at 3:25 p.m. 
  • Sudbury No. 39: Found on July 4 at 4:12 p .m. south of Wanapitei Lake.

*Sudbury No. 33 and Sudbury No. 34 were both found July 3 but were extinguished at the time of Saturday’s fire situation update.
