Organizers have planned several industry forums and educational workshops this week. They include:

Amnon Buchbinder, filmmaker, director and professor at York University, shares his knowledge for free during a reading of the Way of the Scriptwriter at Chapters, 1425 The Kingsway, Friday at 7:30 pm. His film, Whole New Thing will be screened Friday at 3 pm at SilverCity.

People interested in working in film, television or animation should attend the session The Ivory Tower: Post-Secondary Training in Media Arts Thursday at 1 pm, at the Radisson Hotel, downtown ($20).

The National Film Board presents children?s animation workshops in English (10 am) and French (1 pm) at the Sudbury Arts Council office, next to the Sudbury Transit Terminal, on Cedar Street, downtown. This workshop will teach students the techniques and theories of 3D animation. With professional equipment, kids will make flipbooks, storyboards and, ultimately, an animated short about their summer vacation. Their work will be screened at the end of the session ($20).

Saturday the National Film Board will present an animation workshop for teens. For the first time at Cinéfest, teenagers will have an opportunity to discuss and debate relevant topics through animated public service announcements. They?ll work in production teams, manipulating colour, symbols, movement and found objects in order to explore the social issues that affect them. Explore a new industry. Question stereotypes. Take an active role in the media. This session will also be held at the Sudbury Arts Council office starting at 1 pm. ($20)

Admission is free to the Northern Connection shorts at 11 am Sunday. Films by Northern Ontario filmmakers will be featured.

Admission is also free for the Due North panel, Sunday, 2 pm at SilverCity. The artists on this panel all have considerable experience filming in the north and presenting stories that reflect the region?s unique flavour. Meet the filmmakers and learn a little bit about their world.
