Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for area, storm is located near Agnew Lake

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Greater Sudbury and vicinity.

As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and nickel to ping pong ball size hail.

This severe thunderstorm is located 12 kilometres northwest of Agnew Lake, moving east at 50 km/h.

Locations impacted include: Windy Lake Provincial Park, Fairbank Provincial Park, Agnew Lake, West Cameron Lake, Ross Lake, Cameron Lake, Fairbanks, Worthington, Windy Lake, Vack Lake, Fairbank Lake, Perch Lake, High Cliff Lake, Clear Lake, Skill Lake, Vermilion Lake, Sucker Lake, Levack, Little Fairbank Lake and Mond Lake.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury, said the warning from Environment Canada. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
