Police board to discuss the 2017 budget:
Greater Sudbury Police will be asking city council for a 3.8 per cent budget hike for the coming year, as well as a 3.9 per hike hike in 2018 and 3.5 per cent in 2019. Members of the police services board will meet today to decide whether to recommend the increase to city council.
Winter clothing drive open house today:
Looking for some clothes to keep warm this winter? There will be a winter clothing drive and open house at Holy Redeemer Church (1887 Bancroft Drive) from 10:30 a.m to 7 p.m.
Poppies Campaign starts this Friday:
Every year, the Legion conducts the Poppy Campaign to honour those who serve, and to raise funds in support of veterans and their families. From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, all Canadians can be a part of the campaign. This year's campaign begins Oct. 28.

Rail crossing crossing closed on Fourth Avenue this week:
Maintenance will close the railway crossing on Fourth Avenue on Oct. 25 and 26. Traffic will be detoured via Second Avenue. Check out what lane closures to expect around the city here.
