Social Planning Council to host Womenade fundraiser

If you have lemons, you make lemonade. If you have women, you make Womenade. That's the message Social Planning Council members hope spreads through the community as they host their second annual Womenade fundraiser, Nov.

If you have lemons, you make lemonade. If you have women, you make Womenade.

That's the message Social Planning Council members hope spreads through the community as they host their second annual Womenade fundraiser, Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 pm in the Cavern at Science North.

Womenade is a social evening of networking for women in Greater Sudbury and includes a cash bar, light snacks and entertainment by female musicians. It's an evening of free entertainment. Donations are being solicited at the door in support of the Community Emergency Fund.

The Womenade fundraiser first began in 2001 for the purpose of raising money with little effort. All of the donations made go directly in the emergency fund.

"Winter is a very difficult time for pensioners, single parents with young children, and low or fixed income households, especially when it comes to choosing whether to pay your groceries or your heating bill," said Christine Mick, emergency response co-ordinator for the Social Planning Council.

"As rates continue to climb, so does the need to replenish the emergency community fund . . . the fund kicks in when nobody else can."

Since 2001, the emergency fund has assisted more than 500 families.
