Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your day.

'Liberals are hurting small businesses' - Fedeli:

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli joined Sudbury Conservative candidate Troy Crowder at Frubar Juicery in downtown Sudbury on Oct. 21 to discuss small businesses in Northern Ontario. The focal point of their discussion was that the Ontario Liberals are damaging small businesses in Northern Ontario and around the province. "Small businesses are the backbone of the country and the community," said Crowder. "Hydro costs are going up, wages are going up, and it's becoming harder and harder for small businesses to survive." The two met with Frubar owner Frank Ruberto, who said that while local support has been strong, he's still unsure of what the future may hold for his company. Find the full story here.

The Wiggles came to Sudbury!

Downtown Sudbury was buzzing on Saturday morning as hundreds of children and their parents lined up to see The Wiggles live in concert. The Wiggles performed at the Sudbury Community Arena Saturday, Oct. 21 as part of the Big Show 2017 Tour. This brand new show will see Emma, Lachy, Simon and Anthony perform all over Canada. The Wiggles Big Show tour will run from September through to November of this year. Check out the photos from the concert here.

Sweet treats support cancer research:

Cupcakes for Cancer has returned and its organizer is hoping to double up on the success of the first fundraiser. In 2015, Alexis Fong baked and sold 500 cupcakes, raising $2,200 for the Northern Cancer Foundation. After a year off, Fong returned with 1,000 cupcakes in hopes of doubling the funds raised. Alexis and her mother spent the week leading up baking the cupcakes and a number of volunteers helped ice and decorate them. "There was about four sleepless nights this week, but the support has been amazing from volunteers and the community who has come out to buy the cupcakes," said Fong. The cupcakes were on sale for $3 each, with money raised going to NCF.

Help Rotarians on their quest to eradicate polio:

The Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers and The Rotary Club of Sudbury will mark historic progress toward a polio-free world, while urging community support to end the paralyzing disease on World Polio Day, Oct. 24. Rotary Clubs around the world will host events, and here in Sudbury, both Rotary Clubs will host a walk on Oct. 24, starting at 4 p.m. at the corner of Lasalle Boulevard and Barrydowne Road. Rotary members in Sudbury along with family and friends will be among millions reaching out on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio – a vaccine preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.

Put on your purple on Oct. 24 to raise awareness of child abuse:

The Children's Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury & Manitoulin is encouraging Sudburians to wear purple on Oct. 24 to raise awareness of child abuse. October is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Ontario and Children's Aid Societies around the province are pushing to create awareness by inviting people to talk about the issue of child abuse. Every October, Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies (OACAS) and Children’s Aid Societies raise awareness about how to identify and help prevent child abuse. One of the campaign’s key goals is to educate communities and key partners about how calling a Children’s Aid Society is one of the most effective ways to prevent child abuse.
