Campaign trail: Mulroney slams Liberals, promises funding during Sudbury stop

Fresh off a strong performance in the PC debate, Caroline Mulroney said she hopes to bring a fresh perspective to Queens Park, during a leadership campaign stop in Sudbury this morning. The Nickel City was the first stop on her five-city Northern Ontario tour. Among the planks her platform, Mulroney promised a new direction for the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHF), should she be elected to the office. For details on this click here 
 

Its full production for Domtar pulp mill employees
Approximately 150 workers who were laid off at the Espanola pulp mill are back at work, as production at the facility recommenced Friday night, the union told Sudbury.com today. Unifor Local 74 President Joanne Lamothe confirmed the workers were back on the job. Click here for the full story 
 

Bouncy castles a hit at YMCA’s Strong Kids Launch
The scene at YMCA was that of happy chaos today as children bounced from one activity to other at the official launch of Strong Kids Campaign. At the entrance, a spread of baked goods enticed some children while some were happy competing in an obstacle course in the gym. “We want to support our community by inviting all families to participate in the fun and games today,” Kendra Maclsaac, Health Fitness and Aquatics general manager said. Bait you have heard about Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day

Patience is a virtue that could get you some fins this weekend at the fifth annual Friends and Family Ice Fishing Day. Sudbury families had a chance to scale back and enjoy activities like ice fishing and snowshoeing at the Lake Laurentian Conservation. “We are trying to promote outdoor activities for the family this weekend,” Daniela Stuewer, program manager at Conservation Sudbury said. “This is also a license-free fishing weekend to promote ice fishing for families who may not have a license and would like to try fishing.” Click here to check out our photo gallery 

 
Bulldogs bite Wolves on the power play

A comeback squashed by a major penalty in the third period as the Sudbury Wolves fell 8-4 to the Hamilton Bulldogs. “That’s a tough one, yesterday we killed off six minutes (of penalties) and then today playing a top-ranked power play, they scored three goals, and that’s the difference of the hockey game,” Stillman said.
