Greater Sudbury has dismissed Fire Chief Trevor Bain, following months of controversy over the fire optimization plan.

Bain out as Greater Sudbury fire chief:

Greater Sudbury has dismissed Fire Chief Trevor Bain, following months of controversy over the fire optimization plan. The move has been rumoured since word emerged earlier this month that three volunteer firefighters were dismissed over comments they made during the optimization process. In email, city spokesperson Shannon Dowling confirmed the change. Trevor Bain, chief of Fire and Paramedic Services and general manager of community safety, is no longer with the organization,” Dowling wrote. “City CAO Ed Archer, will be working with senior staff over the coming days to appoint an interim general manager for the area.” Bain has been in the spotlight since March, when he led a series of public meetings on optimizing the city's fire and paramedic services, a proposal ultimately rejected by city council. Fedeli and Crowder in Sudbury this morning:

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, and Sudbury PC candidate Troy Crowder will be hosting a discussion in Sudbury on Saturday, Oct. 21. The two will be at Frubar Juicery (950 Lisgar St.) at 9:30 a.m. Discussion will be about how Liberal policy is affecting local small business. The pair will be available for questions after the discussion.

The Wiggles arrive in Sudbury!

The Wiggles are coming to Sudbury Community Arena Saturday, Oct. 21 as part of the Big Show 2017 Tour. The world's favourite children's entertainment group, The Wiggles, are coming to the Nickel City for a performance. This brand new show will see Emma, Lachy, Simon and Anthony perform all over Canada. The Wiggles Big Show tour will run from September through to November of this year. Sweet treats support cancer research:

Cupcakes for Cancer is back and has doubled in size. On Saturday, Oct. 21, Alexis Fong will be at Salute Coffee Company in the city's South End (2195 Armstrong St.) with 1,000 cupcakes for sale. Two years ago, Alexis baked 500 cupcakes for the first Cupcakes for Cancer and she sold out in a little less than two hours, rasing more than $2,200.  This year, Cupcakes for Cancer is back and bigger than ever. Starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 21, Alexis will be once again be selling handmade cupcakes with all proceeds supporting research at the Northeast Cancer Centre and Health Sciences North Research Institute.

Wolves take on Kingston this evening:

The Sudbury Wolves will play their third straight home game on Saturday night when the Kingston Frontenacs pay a visit to the Sudbury Community Arena. The Wolves are in the midst of a four-game stretch of holding home ice advantage. Sudbury opened up the homestand with a 4-2 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. On Friday night the Wolves battled hard against the OHL-leading Sarnia Sting, but fell by a score of 5-2. Sudbury and Kingston will faceoff tonight at 7:05 p.m. The Wolves wrap up their homestand on Friday night against the Windsor Spitfires.

Voyageur ladies wrap up their regular season this weekend:

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer team will play a pair of home games this weekend to close out their regular season. The ladies currently sit in fourth place in the OUA East Division and will look to grab a playoff spot, but will need to get a result or two to cling to their slim lead in the standings over fifth place Ryerson. On Saturday the ladies take on the East Division-leading UOIT Ridgebacks. The two battled to a 0-0 draw earlier this month. On Sunday, the Voyageurs will take on the Trent Excalibur who are ninth in the East and are playing for pride at this point in the season.
