The Greater Sudbury Police Service is hosting Sudbury’s second annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Toll for Special Olympics.

This event will take place on Saturday, April 7, between the hours of 9 am 6 pm.

Voluntary tolls will be conducted at the following locations - the exit from Costco onto Barrydowne Road, the exit from Chapters, the exit from Winners, the exit from Home Sense, the exit from Linen and Things and the two exits from Boston Pizza.

The event will be manned by uniform police officers, members of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Police Foundation students from Cambrian College and College Boréal and Special Olympians.

This is the 21st anniversary for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and organizers hope to exceed the funds raised from this event last year, which totaled over $16,000.

Since 1986 the Torch Run has raised in excess of $21 million dollars in the province of Ontario.

Organizers are hoping this fundraising venture will continue to be not only a community event, but a great success.

Police are asking members of the public to show some patience exiting shopping areas, as the volume of traffic on this holiday weekend will be heavy.

If further information is required, contact Greater Sudbury Police Sgt. Joanne Pendrak or Sgt. Marj Jeffery at 675-9171.
