Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for a large swath of northeastern Ontario, warning of the potential for some freezing rain beginning this afternoon.

Issue late this morning, the statement warns of the potential for patchy, freezing drizzle and precipitation including snow, ice pellets and a risk of freezing rain, for this afternoon. The system is expected to taper off this evening.

Environment Canada said the latest analysis suggests any freezing rain occurring this afternoon and this evening would be rather light and patchy, but the region is still being monitored for potential freezing rain warnings.

Motorists should be prepared for potentially icy road conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
