A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Greater Sudbury and the surrounding area in response to reports of heavy rainfall to begin Saturday night and carry into the next day.

Rain, heavy at times and possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected to touch down in Southwestern Ontario Saturday evening and spread towards the Ontario-Quebec border by 12 p.m. Sunday

Environment Canada in their report said there is "considerable uncertainty" regarding where the highest rainfall amounts are expected.

The only estimate, at this point, is that localized areas that receive multiple rounds of heavy rain in thunderstorms could see upwards of 25 mm in rainfall.

A rainfall warning will be issued should heavier rainfall amounts become more likely.
