St. Joseph's Health Centre makes three seniors' wishes come true

A convertible ride, a downtown visit and a pedicure

The St. Joseph's Health Centre made the wishes of three of its residents come true as part of Seniors' Month.

The Make a Wish Program was introduced at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in 2015 with the goal to enrich the lives of its residents and patients by providing opportunities for unique and meaningful life experiences.

A committee selects one resident from St. Gabriel’s Villa and one from St. Joseph’s Villa, as well as one patient from St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre during Senior’s Month and aims to fulfill each person's special wish.

"It is heartwarming to see the expressions each year on the faces of the winners and to know that this program is made possible from the donations received through the organizations Special Needs Fund, a fund that staff of St. Joseph’s Health Centre support through payroll deduction," St. Joseph's said in a press release.

What were the 2016 winning wishes? At St. Gabriel’s Villa, Raymond Marcotte is preparing for a convertible ride where he will listen to his favorite “tunes” and feel the wind against his face the way he used to as a young man.

Belanger Ford in Chelmsford will be helping to make Ray’s wish come true by providing the convertible for the ride.

Albert Lamirande of St. Joseph’s Villa is preparing for an afternoon in downtown Sudbury, his old “stomping grounds” as part of his winning wish. He wants to see how much the downtown has changed and will either take in a movie, a lunch out or perhaps both.

Carol Werbowsky was this year’s recipient of the Make A Wish initiative at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre. Fellow patient Wendy Field nominated Werbowsky for the wish. Field’s wish for Werbowsky is to receive a manicure, pedicure and some extra pampering during the year.
