One year less a day since the launch of the Sudbury Hospice Foundation's Stand by Me campaign, site preparation has started to make way for more beds and a multi-use suite.

Feb. 22 marked the one-year anniversary since the launch of the three-year, $5.1-million campaign. Site preparation started Feb. 21.

The expansion will see the addition of three more adult residential hospice beds, six new short-stay respite beds, one new Pediatric-Transition-Education multi-use suite with a living area and an extension to the barrier-free Walk of Life boardwalk on the shores of Bethel Lake.

In the past year, the Stand by Me campaign has raised $2.4 million for the expansion project.

“The campaign will directly benefit those living with, or affected by, serious illness and grief,” said a news release. “It will also enable the Hospice to offer ongoing support to our residents, their families and the community at large.”
