Stantec-Mining provided an early Christmas gift to the Human League Association through a $1,000 in support of the League's programs and services.
Stantec, a global engineering and design company, has been known for its commitment to sustainability in the communities they serve – a philosophy that drives their employees’ giving, as well, according to a news release from the Human League Association.
Sherrie Burrell, business development co-ordinator at Stantec, presented the cheque to Human League staff just a few days before Christmas.
“At Stantec, we invest in people, whether that is our own employees, through training and technology or our community through donations and public involvement. Our culture at Stantec is very much about maintaining a healthy work environment whereby family and a sense of community are paramount. A healthy community benefits all of us.”
“Investing in the youth of our community is one of the strongest indicators of a business’ intent to stay,” said Leanne Tucker, executive director of The Human League Association.
"Having ‘neighbours’ who are not only aware of the needs of those around them, but also who commit to improving their lives as well is the reason that Greater Sudbury is such an incredible community to live in.”
Funds received from Stantec will be used for the Breakfast Club for Kids and Play programs, and will directly benefit local children in need.
The Breakfast Club for Kids helps to feed thousands of children daily, in schools across the city.
The PLAY (Positive Leisure Activities for Youth) program is funded exclusively through public and private donations. Most exciting is the new LIFE program – a mentorship program for at-risk youth with FASD, which is currently being developed.
An anticipated launch date has not yet been confirmed.
“We rely on the generosity and support of our corporate citizens to ensure we are able to meet the growing need for help,” said Tuckers. “We are humbled by the opportunity to serve, and look forward to helping even more families in 2013."
