Still a mystery: Case of injured man found by Azilda railroad tracks being investigated by CP police

Victim taken to hospital, remains in critical condition

Canadian Pacific said it is investigating after a man was found on the CP right-of-way near Azilda on Sept. 1.

“At approximately noon Saturday, CP personnel identified an injured person on the CP right-of-way near Azilda,” the company said in an email. “CP immediately notified local emergency responders, who transported the person for medical treatment. Canadian Pacific Police Service is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.”

The name of that person has not been released. It's unknown if he was struck by a train, fell from a train or was injured in some other way. How he came to be lying injured and unconscious by railroad tracks in Azilda remains a mystery.

There has been no new information from either CP or Greater Sudbury Police about how the man got there. However, police said he is a 23-year-old man, who remains in critical condition at Health Sciences North.

GSPS received a call shortly before noon on Sept. 1 about an injured person by the tracks. When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to Health Sciences North, where he remains in critical condition.

Also mysterious are the nature of his injuries. That information hasn't been released.

The circumstances leading up to the incident are being investigated by the CP Police, said Greater Sudbury Police Service, as the man was found on railway property.
