Dr. Roger Strasser, a native of Australia, will officially take up the position of founding dean of the Northern Medical School this week.

Â?ItÂ?s a lot of work to do in quite a tight time frame,Â? said Strasser. Â?ItÂ?s a fantastic opportunity and with it comes a lot of pressure.Â?

Strasser has inked a seven-year contract with the new medical school. He and his family plan to relocate to Sudbury from Australia in August.

The IMC is currently meeting with project stakeholders in Sudbury and Thunder Bay. These talks will also include representatives from the regionÂ?s medical community, as well as officials from Laurentian University and Lakehead University.

Strasser is interested in the Â?complete packageÂ? the Northern Medical School will offer, and is hoping to recruit students from the rural north, and to introduce pre-med programs at Laurentian and Lakehead as a precursor to the medical school.
