Grade 8 students at Marymount Academy were treated April 30 to a mining tour of the city, thanks to a poster created by one of their classmates.

Hanna Knutson's poster was one of five selected in the Sudbury Mining Week's poster contest. Five grade 5-8 classes won mining tours through the poster contest.

Knutson said she's thrilled to be one of the contest's winners.

"I love to draw," she said. "I gave it my all, and am so glad my hard work paid off. It was so amazing to find out that I won.”

Each winning class will go on a tour of the city to better understand how the mining industry has evolved.

Stops on the tour include regreening sites, the first discovery of Sudbury ore, shattercones and a close look at modern mining technologies.
