Local boutique, Studio 35 Fashions, will be hosting an exclusive Trunk Show for Canadian designer Annie Thompson from May 16-18, with a special event Thursday to kick off the fashion-forward presentation.
Thompson is a cross-disciplinary artist, who has showcased her unique sculptures, dance, fashion, and fine craft, in exhibitions and cultural exchanges around the world. Thompson has been designing under her own label for the past 40 years, collections of which have been presented in across Canada, Palm Beach, Washington, Chicago, Boston, and Dubai.
Thompson has managed to keep production local throughout her career, sourcing upcycled and sustainable materials, while earning the reputation as a leader in the Canadian fashion design community. In 2017, Thompson was awarded the Vaguard Award for sustainability and longevity in Canadian Fashion, at the Fashion Takes Action annual runway event.
Studio 35 features a blend of Canadian and European brands, complemented by international ethically-sourced fashions. This mix was inspired by the boutique's owner Ania Derecka, who was born and raised in Poland before moving to Canada, where she said she has spent the majority of her years.
"I opened Studio 35 as I felt there was no representation in Sudbury of our beautiful, talented Canadian designers and with my European background, I thought bringing selected lines from my country of origin would add some flavour to the business," said Derecka in a press release.
Studio 35 will be hosting a meet and greet with refreshments to launch the trunk show Thursday, May 16 from 6-9 p.m. Following that evening, guests are invited to browse the collection May 17 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and May 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
