Sudburians come through for Salvation Army

Organizers of this year's Salvation Army Kettle Campaign were concerned they wouldn't reach their goal of $70,000.

But "once again Sudburians came through for The Salvation Army, helping us to raise $87,276," said family services co-ordinator Geneva Oake, in a press release.

"We want to thank the businesses and people of Sudbury for their support. It is wonderful to know our community cares about those who need some assistance to get them through the rough times."

Oake also thanked the volunteers who manned the collection kettles and those who worked behind the scenes.

T.D. Canada Trust contributed $35,000 and toys for the Christmas assistance program. Bingo One provided the turkeys for families. In addition, students at St. Benedict and Marymount schools sponsored 46 families.

Many people also contributed to the food drive, which will provide food until spring.

This Christmas, the charity provided assistance to 760 families.
