On Saturday, April 29, Sudburians will gather to create political will for real climate action, creation of clean tech jobs, and climate justice.

The march in Sudbury is one of more than 300 events happening internationally and is inspired by the historic People’s Climate Mobilization in Washington, D.C on that same day where over 100,000 people are expected to march.

"The planet is on track to hit a level of CO2 in the atmosphere not seen in 50 million years in a few decades- when the planet was 10 degrees warmer and there was barely any ice on Earth," said Cathy Orlando, Citizens Climate Lobby in a news release.

"We are uniting to protect our right to clean air, water, land, healthy communities and a world at peace. We are standing together to tell our Canadian political representatives that we expect them to do more: to reduce GHG emissions and curb climate change, to transition to a new clean and renewable energy economy that works for all, to respect and uphold Indigenous rights."

The march will start at the CN Railyard in Sudbury on Elgin Street across from the Samaritan Centre at 12:30 p.m.

A number of guest speakers are lined up for the day. Second year chemical engineering student at Laurentian University Kaella Earle will emcee the event.

Speakers include William Morin, First Nations artist and educator, Robert McCarthy, disability rights advocate, and 10-year-old Sophia Mathur.
