Sudbury residents will be able to fly direct to Montego Bay, Jamaica, starting this winter.

Sunwing announced in an Aug. 14 news release that it would be offering direct flight service from the Greater Sudbury Airport on Thursdays between Dec. 20 and April 11, 2019. The tour operator will also continue offering flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, from Dec. 19 to April 3, 2019.

Sunwing has operated seasonal service out of Sudbury for the last 11 years.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sunwing back to Greater Sudbury for their 12th season," said Todd Tripp, CEO of the Greater Sudbury Airport, in the release.

"Punta Cana has always been a popular sun destination choice for Sudbury travellers and we are delighted that Sunwing is doubling their flight service over the 2018-2019 winter season to now offer Montego Bay, Jamaica, as an option. Both Punta Cana and Montego Bay provide local travellers with excellent winter escape choices."

Sunwing offers travellers an array of all-inclusive vacation packages, which include their flight, accommodation and meals.

The Greater Sudbury Airport is currently in the midst of a 10-year master plan and is seeking feedback from travellers about their travel habits. The master plan is designed to focus on architectural and structural features that could enhance the airport and its offerings.

About 70 per cent of the traffic going through the airport is business-related, while the remaining 30 per cent is for leisure purposes.
