The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) - Sudbury District has issued a flood watch for the area until Friday, May 3.

Residents of Sudbury, Alban, Markstay-Warren, Wanup, St. Charles, Espanola, Manitoulin Island, areas of the North-shore and the unorganized Townships south of Sudbury, are encouraged to keep a close watch on conditions, check for media updates and avoid fast-moving rivers and streams.

While the majority of snowpack has dissapeared from the southern part of the district and urban areas, MNRF in a press release said there is still snow in wooded and northern regions of local watersheds that pose a flood risk.

Watersheds had begun to decrease, but are likely to increase towards the end of the weekend and into next week due to recent precipitation on ongoing melt. MNRF said that as a result, there is a potential to see localized flooding in some low-lying areas.

At this time, MNRF said that local streams and river are still elevated but remain within seasonal norms.
