Greater Sudbury anesthetist Dr. Wayne Lambert said the 24 transitional beds announced at Sudbury Regional Hospital recently will do little to solve the hospital's bed shortage.
"The real issue is that we lack the community resources to properly care for people who do not require acute hospital care but require assistance to heal or function outside of the hospital," he wrote in a letter to the editor published in Northern Life last week.
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the North East Local Health Integration Network have not done their part to deal with the bed shortage, he said.
