The Sudbury Catholic District School Board said it approved a balanced budget for the 2018-19 school year at its June 19 meeting.

Highlights from this year’s budget include:

An increase in the special education allocation which further supports students with special needs. Amounts were added for multi-disciplinary supports.

Continued investment in innovation as part of the Board’s system priorities. Through this funding, the board will continue to support and promote innovation and the international education program.

Investment in mental health and well-being by hiring additional child and youth workers.

Continuation of additional staff in the Learning Support Facilitators role to further support continued achievements in literacy and mathematics.

“The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is proud to provide continuous support to help achieve our vision of being leaders in learning and faith,” said Sudbury Catholic board chair Michael Bellmore, in a press release.

“We are very pleased with the direction the board is taking for this year’s budget, especially when addressing areas such as special education, wellbeing and innovation. We look forward to seeing this budget carried out during the 2018-2019 school year.”
