Sudbury Five open the season with home-court win

Saturday’s home game at the Sudbury Community Arena saw the Five basketball team beat the Oakland County Pharaohs 122-96

The Sudbury Five basketball team opened the season with a home-game win against the Oakland County Pharaohs, netting 122 points to their 96.

“We did fine -- glimpses of really good basketball, glimpses of some dips and some letdowns, which is fine, that’s totally expected right now, we’ve only been at it seven or eight days,” Head coach and GM Logan Stutz said in a post-game interview

“We’re going to get there, but overall, I’m happy with the guys. They stuck together. Honestly, their attitudes and body language were championship level.”

The Oakland County Pharaohs are visiting Sudbury from Michigan, and will be playing a second game at the Sudbury Community Arena this afternoon (Jan. 8) at 2 p.m.

Most tickets are $23, and are available by clicking here.

Despite beating the visiting team by a 26-point margin on Saturday, Stutz said Sunday’s game isn’t a guaranteed win.

“I’m expecting a tougher match for them, for sure, because they played a great second half, and if they carry that over we’ll have to make sure we sharpen our game tomorrow,” he said.

With mixed results on Saturday, he said the team is at around 43 per cent there, with more work to do in order to bring them to where they need to be.

“We’ve got to get out there and be sharper.”
