The Sudbury Five dropped a home game against Windsor on Saturday.

Had they succeeded in their match against the Windsor Express on Saturday night, the Sudbury Five would have notched a first-place in the Basketball Super League standing.

The Five didn’t get their desired result, as they lost to the Express by a score of 107-103 for their third consecutive loss and now hold a record of 10 wins and five losses for the season.

The game was close right out of the gate, with the Express barely edging out the Five in the first quarter, by a score of 24-23, with Tray Maddox scoring eight points for Windsor in the quarter and Charlie Marquardt leading the way for Sudbury with 12 points in the first quarter.

The game remained close in the second quarter, with Windsor once again winning a close quarter by a score of 33-31, with Mike Bruce leading the way for the Express with 11 points, and at halftime the Sudbury Five found themselves trailing the Windsor Express by a score of 57-54.

Windsor created a bit of distance on the scoreboard with a 26 point third quarter while holding the Five to 19 points of their own, giving the Windsor Express a 10-point lead, 83-73, with one quarter left to play in the basketball game.

The Five finally won a quarter in the fourth, outscoring Windsor 30-24 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough, as Windsor held on for a 107-103 victory against the Sudbury Five, handing the Five their third consecutive loss.

Charlie Marquardt was the Sudbury Five Performer of the Night with 23 points, two assists, and eight rebounds.

The Sudbury Five have a week off to regroup until they face reigning Basketball Super League champs the London Lightning at the Sudbury Community Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8 with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
