Like all other movie theatres across the province, Sudbury Indie Cinema was shuttered last month due to the COVID-19 situation in Ontario.

During this winter’s lockdown, Sudbury Indie Cinema has jumped back into virtual programming for the time being.

“When you buy a virtual ticket to one of these films, the distributor and the Indie share the proceeds just as we would at the cinema itself,” said an email sent out by Sudbury Indie Cinema executive director Beth Mairs.

“We hope this helps you by gaining access to the best in cinema being released theatrically, it helps our distributors whom we truly love to stay afloat, and it helps us a little to pay the ongoing bills and commitments.

“Over the next four weeks, we are planning to release at least 10 titles to get us through... in style. We, of course, have our eye on the prize to re-open the moment we are legally permitted to, but in the meantime....we hope you LOVE these films! We MISS YOU!”

Among the current titles available for streaming through Sudbury Indie Cinema are Blizzard of Souls, Mayor, Sound of Metal, Black Bear, Martin Eden, Helmut Newton, Oliver Sacks and First We Eat.

Find instructions on how to stream these titles through Sudbury Indie Cinema’s website.
