About 750 people voted at a nomination meeting Aug. 27. Hartman competed against Réjean Grenier, Janet Gasparini and Gary Holman for the nomination.

Hartman has been involved with the Liberal Party for over three decades. She campaigned for former Sudbury Liberal MP Jim Jerome in the 1970s.

She is the current chair of board of directors at Sudbury Regional Hospital, and has been a lawyer in Sudbury for more than 22 years.

Hartman won in the third round of ballot counting, meaning she hadn't won with 50 per cent of the total votes in the first round.

In the second round, it dropped to three candidates, and Hartman still wasn't the clear winner.

Hartman emerged as the winner in the third round of voting. Final vote tallies were not released.
