Sudbury man awarded for social work with kidney patients

A Sudbury man, Gary Petingola, MSW, RSW, has been awarded for outstanding achievement in nephrology patient and health-care professional care.  

Petingola was named the recipient of the Robert W. Whitlock Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Kidney Foundation (NFK), a U.S.-based health organization to support individuals affected by kidney disease.

Petingola was awarded in April at the NKF’s 2023 Spring Clinical Meetings in Austin,Texas, said a news release. 

The award recognizes "the profound impact that Petingola has had on the field of nephrology social work" through programs, publications and teachings, mentoring colleagues and improving the lives of kidney patients and family through research, presentations, articles, and program development, said the release.  

The National Kidney Foundation is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease for hundreds of thousands of health-care professionals, millions of patients and their families, and tens of millions of Americans at risk.

In Sudbury, Petingola is associated with Mindfulness on the Rocks, a company that provides evidence-based mindfulness programming, said the news release. Petingola is qualified to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction through the Center for Mindfulness, UMASS and Certified through the Mindfulness Center, Brown University School of Public Health, the release continued. Petingola has co-founded Mindfulness on the Rocks - Meditation Solutions for Maximum Life Impact, along with Sheila Damore-Petingola MSW, RSW.
