Sudbury native Angela Leahey has been named winner of a high profile nursing award in the field of oncology nursing.

Leahey grew up in Sudbury and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Laurentian University and has family still living in the Nickel City. Angela now lives and works in Toronto.

Leahey was in Calgary over the weekend where she received the Boehringer Ingelheim Oncology Nurse of the Year Award for 2016.

Angela is passionate about cancer care - in particular listening to the needs of patients and their families.

She recently set up an innovative nursing phone line so patients don't have to leave a voice message outlining health concerns.
