Sudbury pits its tap water against the bottled water industry

Coca Cola's Dasani, PepsiCo's Aquafina and Nestle's Pure Life will be put to the test against Sudbury's tap water.

Coca Cola's Dasani, PepsiCo's Aquafina and Nestle's Pure Life will be put to the test against Sudbury's tap water. Community members will be challenged to consider what is inside bottled water in a taste test that pits bottled water against tap water, followed by an open community forum entitled, Is Bottled Water Safe?

The taste test will take place on Sept. 30 from 1 to 5 pm at the Council Chambers inside the Tom Davies Square at 200 Brady St.

The test is being coordinated by the Polaris Institute as part of a campaign on the bottled water industry.

Residents will hear presentations from three panelists who will be questioning the environmental health and social-economic issues associated with the bottled water industry. People will then participate in two workshops aimed at developing community based action plans to curb the bottled water trend and support Sudbury's public water system.

The panelist are Andrea Harden, bottled water campaigner for the Polaris Institute, Wymann Mackinnon, President of CUPE local 4705 and Nathalie Gara-Bovin, drinking water quality specialist for the Nickel District Conservation Authority.
