The Canadian Authors Association will hold its annual convention in Sudbury this year. The association plays a key role in the development of the Canadian writing community. Its 81st annual conference, which organizers are calling Northern Ink, will take place July 5-7 at the Ramada Inn.

Writers from across Canada attend the convention, which is a good place for people who want to become writers to meet people with similar interests.

Workshop topics will include fiction character development, the pros and cons and how-tos of e-book publishing and marketing.

Sonja Dunn, who is well known in Sudbury for her theatre work, will give a workshop on performance poetry. There will be a session on how to apply for Ontario Arts Council grants. Northern Life managing editor, Vicki Gilhula, will give a presentation on how to freelance for newspapers.

In addition, there are fun activities planned throughout the weekend. There is an authors' awards banquet and lots of opportunities to socialize and meet writers.

The cost for non members to attend is $160 before April 30 or $185 after the early bird deadline.
Deborah Ranchuk, of White Mountain Publications, in New Liskeard, is the organizer of this year's convention. She can be reached at Box 5180, New Liskeard, P0J 1P0 or by visiting their website at www.canauthors.org.
