After 23 years calling Elm Street its home, the Sudbury Women’s Centre has moved to a larger location on Douglas Street, able to accommodate an increase in client needs, brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

To help fund its recent growth, SWC has initiated an online auction featuring more than 40 listings. These range from stand-alone items to baskets, with a focus on local business and locally made items.

The auction will run from Aug. 23 to Sept. 2, with the SWC social media sites providing the link at 11 a.m. Aug. 23.

“The support from our community has been astounding, especially considering the challenges that our local businesses have faced this past year.” SWC Executive Director Giulia Carpenter said.

“We have seen the demand for our support and services grow, and with that, our organization needed to grow along with it.”

Formerly F-324 Elm St. West, the centre is now located at 174 Douglas St., Suite 201 and features a larger, more accessible community clothing and accessories closet, (My Sister’s Closet) and more office space.

The closet is now open by appointment only, and those looking for clothing should call the centre to book their slot.

Donations to the closet may be brought into the centre by appointment only, and any contributions left outside will unfortunately be disposed of.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of our community,” continues Carpenter. “From clothing for My Sister’s Closet, to the amazing auction items we have lined up, we see how much Sudburians care. And every single contribution makes such a difference in the lives of women in need.”

Those interested in making a donation to the auction are welcome to contact Lindsay Vautour at [email protected], or by telephone at 705-673-1916, ext. 104.

Those looking to participate are encouraged to follow SWC on social media @sudburywomenscentre to be kept informed and see the auction link when it goes live.
