Sudbury's 11th annual Wordstock Literary Festival is about to happen.
This year's festival will showcase more than 20 Canadian authors and present 15 engaging sessions that celebrate the literary arts, said a news release from the organizers. There will be something for everyone whether you’re a book lover, an aspiring writer, or looking to connect with a literary community and participate in thoughtful discussions, said the release.
The event takes place at Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury, from November 1st to November 3rd, 2024; next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
There are multiple ticketing options, including reduced rates for students and individuals on a fixed income, said a Wordstock news release. The all-access festival pass includes access to all panel discussions, events and two exclusive masterclasses for writers. The 3-day festival pass includes access to all panel discussions and events but excludes masterclasses.
There is an online program book that outlines everything a Wordstock fan needs to know for the event, with full descriptions of what is being offered including detailed information on guest authors.
There is also a program at a glance option online that gives a quick breakdown of what events are happening and when. This includes quick information on guest authors
Some festival highlights include the opening night event with award winning author Alicia Elliott (And Then She Fell), who is a national bestselling Indigenous author. She is the recipient of the Indigenous Voices Award and the Amazon First Novel Award. She will be in conversation with local activist Shana Calixte Pitawanakwat on Friday, November 1st from 7:30 PM-8:30 PM.
Indigenous author/playwright Drew Hayden Taylor (Cold) will be joining the event this year in conversation with humour writer Rod Carley (Ruff) on Sunday, November 3rd from 2:30 PM- 3:30 PM. This will be an unscripted dive into using humour to tackle troubling times.
Poetry lovers should be pleased that the Annual Sudbury Poetry Slam is taking place on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:00 PM-11:00 PM. Jennifer Alicia Murrin, two-time national poetry slam winner and storyteller, is joining us again as the MC along with two feature poets this year. We will have award-winning spoken word poet Fareh Malik (Streams That Lead Somewhere), winner of the RBC PEN Canada New Voices Award and the Austin Clarke Prize in Literary Excellence, and local poet and past winner, Lindsay Mayhew.
