Sometimes the best new ideas come from the most unexpected places. With that in mind, Sudbury's Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) has put out the call for new ideas for mining operations.
The formal call for proposals is now in place and people with ideas are invited to take part in a webinar happening on Friday through MICA, the Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator.
Registrations are now being accepted online.
MICA said project ideas must fall into one or more of the following key categories to be eligible:
- Productivity – Enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in mining operations
- Energy – Advancing sustainable energy solutions in mining
- Smart – Leveraging digital and automated technologies for smarter mining practices
- Environment – Promoting environmentally responsible mining solutions
Additional consideration will also be made for projects that address or include circularity, critical mineral extraction and license to operate, said a MICA news release.
Those who have new ideas that can be commercialized must be conducting business in Canada, have a presence in Canada and be incorporated pursuant to the laws of Canada,
Projects must have the participation of a minimum of one Canadian SME (small- or medium-sized enterprise), ownership of Eligible Project Intellectual Property created through MICA support will remain in Canada for a minimum of five years after the end of the funding. Projects must be completed by the end of March 2028, said the release.
