Devon Kershaw, 35, the elder statesman of the Canadian nordic ski team and a native of Sudbury, will be making his fourth straight appearance at the 2018 Winter Olympics next month in PyeongChang, South Korea.

In fact, some of the most memorable performances in the career of the Onaping Falls Nordic Ski Club representative and graduate of Lockerby Composite have come at the Games.

On the final day of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Kershaw came within fractions of a second of reaching the podium, finishing fifth in the 50-kilometer race.

In 2012, he would break new ground, on an international scale, becoming the first Canadian male ever to finish second overall on the World Cup nordic ski circuit, a season which saw him capture top spot in a pair of events along the way.

Just days removed from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy, Kershaw established himself as a sprinter of note, earning a silver medal at a World Cup race in Sweden, again the first male skier from Canada to accomplish the feat.

Married to Norwegian skier Kirsten Stoermer Steira in 2015, Kershaw will participate in the Olympics for the first time as a father, the couple welcoming the birth of their first child (Asta) last year at this time.

Over the next few days, Sudbury.com will be featuring those Olympians and volunteers who will be representing the Nickel City — and Canada — at the Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
