It was a historic weekend at the NHL All Star Game in San Jose, as four female hockey players took part in Friday night's skills competition.

Among them was Sudbury's Rebecca Johnston, who plays for the Calgary Inferno in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. The two-time Olympic gold medallist was joined by her Inferno teammate Brianna Decker, Kendall Coyne Schofield, and Renata Fast.

Johnston put on an impressive performance in the puck control challenge, which was eventually won by another individual playing their pro hockey in Calgary, as Johnny Gaudreau won the event for the second straight year.

The 29-year-old Sudburian was the focal point out west however, as she graced the front page of Monday's Calgary Sun.

Johnston tweeted on Sunday, "Being able to take part in the NHL Allstar skills competition was a once in a lifetime opportunity! We are so fortunate to have been able to help grow the women’s game."
