Sudbury's St. Charles school knows how to pick the winners

Popular 50/50 draw at Health Sciences North produces a monthly grand prize winner and St. Charles College secondary school has a lot of successful ticket buyers

Some folks at St. Charles College secondary school in Sudbury seem to have the right touch when it comes to buying hospital lottery draw tickets.

Shane Gordon, the Manager, Lottery and Websites for Foundations at Health Sciences North (HSN) said that was true for the recent October HSN 50/50 grand prize draw.

That draw was won by family members Melinda (Lindy) Charbonneau of St. Charles College, along with her sister Tania Brown and their dad Winston Baldwin of Sudbury (ticket # AC-27411211), sharing a jackpot of $620,200.

Gordon said it was interesting to note that a few recent winners in the past couple of years were also connected to the school.

"All of the winners have been with tickets purchased alongside spouses or family but the ties to St. Charles College over the course of 18 months of draws is astonishing," said Gordon. He said this was the case with the following jackpot winners:

-Julie Jessop won with her husband Jay twice – $506,538 in September 2021 and $476,808 in November 2021.

-Angie Louie won June 2021’s $770,995 jackpot alongside her husband David.

Gordon quickly added that the HSN largest draw jackpot --$914,855 in May 2021 -- was Brigitte Laing who works at LaSalle Secondary.

The HSN 50/50 cash lottery ticket sale for December is now on. Supporters can purchase their tickets online at https://www.hsn5050.ca/
