The annual Walk for Alzheimer’s event takes place in Sudbury June 3. The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Alzheimer Society office, located at 960B Notre Dame Ave.

“Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia affect over 5,000 people in our community and that number doesn't include the many caregivers and family members giving their time and support 24/7 to their loved one,” said a press release.

“With no cure or treatment in sight yet, a diagnosis of dementia is a frightening and life-changing challenge.

“But, there is something you can do now to support those living in our community with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia.

“This Spring all across Canada people are rising up to the challenge. They are walking to raise awareness and much-needed funds for vital dementia support, programs and services that improve the quality of life for those living with this disease as well as for their families.

“Last year, thousands of walkers gathered together to raise these important funds; the need has never been greater!”

Funds raised remain local and help with essential programs and support services.
